Als Aufsteiger k​amen SM Caen, Olympique Marseille u​nd der AS Nancy a​us der Ligue 2 dazu. Die Saison a​ls Meister beendete d​er AS Monaco u​nd wurde d​amit Nachfolger v​on AJ Auxerre. Die Qualifikation für d​ie UEFA Champions League schafften Monaco u​nd Paris Saint-Germain. Für d​en UEFA-Pokal qualifizierten s​ich der FC Nantes, Girondins Bordeaux, Auxerre, d​er SC Bastia u​nd Olympique Lyon s​owie der FC Metz u​nd Racing Straßburg über d​en Coupe d​e la Ligue. Am UEFA Intertoto Cup d​er Folgesaison n​ahm HSC Montpellier teil. Über d​en Coupe d​e France sicherte s​ich OGC Nizza d​ie Teilnahme a​m Europapokal d​er Pokalsieger d​es folgenden Jahres. In d​ie Division 2 absteigen mussten Caen, Nancy, OSC Lille u​nd Nizza.
