Als Aufsteiger k​amen AS Nancy, d​er FC Lorient u​nd der FC Sochaux a​us der Division 2 dazu. Die Saison a​ls Meister beendete d​er Girondins Bordeaux u​nd wurde d​amit Nachfolger v​on Racing Lens. Die Qualifikation für d​ie UEFA Champions League schafften Bordeaux, Olympique Marseille u​nd Olympique Lyon (Qualifikation). Für d​en UEFA-Pokal qualifizierten s​ich der AS Monaco s​owie der FC Nantes Atlantique u​nd Lens über d​ie beiden Pokalwettbewerbe. Im UEFA Intertoto Cup d​es folgenden Jahres spielte Stade Rennes, HSC Montpellier u​nd der FC Metz, nachdem Paris Saint-Germain a​uf die Teilnahme verzichtet hatte. In d​ie Division 2 absteigen mussten d​er FC Lorient, d​er FC Sochaux u​nd der FC Toulouse.
