Chalaux liegt etwa 70 Kilometer nordöstlich von Nevers im Morvan am Fluss Chalaux. Umgeben wird Chalaux von den Nachbargemeinden von Marigny-l’Église im Norden und Osten sowie Saint-Martin-du-Puy im Süden und Westen.
