Chamvres liegt etwa 28 Kilometer nordwestlich von Auxerre. Umgeben wird Chamvres von den Nachbargemeinden Joigny im Norden und Nordosten, Paroy-sur-Tholon im Osten und Südosten, Montholon im Süden und Südosten sowie Béon im Westen.
