Geschichte
Papst Johannes Paul II. gründete das Bistum am 4. April 2000 mit der Apostolischen Konstitution Plerique sacrorum aus einem Teil des Territoriums des Erzbistums Cumaná, dem es auch als Suffragandiözese unterstellt wurde.
