Bis zur landesweiten Neuordnung der französischen Kantone im März 2015 gehörten zum Kanton Imphy die sechs Gemeinden Chevenon, Gimouille, Imphy, Magny-Cours, Saincaize-Meauce und Sauvigny-les-Bois. Sein Zuschnitt entsprach einer Fläche von 146,81 km km2. Er besaß vor 2015 einen anderen INSEE-Code als heute, nämlich 5832.
