Rheinland Lions

Der Rheinland Lions Australian Football Club in Cologne e.V. (RFC), kurz Rheinland Lions (deutsch: Rheinland-Löwen), ist ein in Düsseldorf gegründeter Australian-Rules-Football-Club, der seit 2006 in Köln beheimatet ist.

Geschichte

Gegründet wurden die Rheinland Lions 2002 in Düsseldorf. Unter dem Namen Düsseldorf Demons traten damals Rugbyspieler und Anhänger des Gälischen sowie Australischen Footballs an. 2004 trat die Mannschaft als Düsseldorf Lions an. Der Club schloss sich 2004 als fünfter deutscher Australian-Football-Club der Australian Football League Germany (AFLG) an.

2006 zog der Verein nach Köln, was Spielerverluste verursachte. Dennoch realisierte die Mannschaft von 2007 bis 2009 den Hattrick im Rahmen der Deutschen Meisterschaften.[1]

Die Rheinland Lions gewannen den Meistertitel insgesamt 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 und 2014, waren viermal deutscher Vizemeister und wurden 2015 Dritter in der 16’s-Liga (Stand: 2015).

Präsident war 2015 Claude Lovrinovic, Vize-Präsident Richard Meisenheimer und Schatzmeister Alex Richards.[2]
