Geschichte
Papst Johannes Paul II. gründete es mit der Apostolischen Konstitution Ad aptius consulendum am 2. November 1995 aus Gebietsabtretungen des Bistums Galle und es wurde dem Erzbistum Colomboh als Suffragandiözese unterstellt.
