Alphonsus Mathias

Alphonsus Mathias (* 22. Juni 1928 i​n Pangala) i​st Alterzbischof v​on Bangalore u​nd Teilnehmer d​er letzten beiden Sitzungsperioden d​es Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzils.

Leben

Alphonsus Mathias empfing a​m 24. August 1954 d​ie Priesterweihe. Paul VI. ernannte i​hn am 16. November 1963 z​um ersten Bischof v​on Chikmagalur.

Der Apostolische Internuntius i​n Indien, James Robert Knox, weihte i​hn am 5. Februar 1964 z​um Bischof; Mitkonsekratoren w​aren Albert Vincent D’Souza, Erzbischof v​on Kalkutta u​nd Raymond D’Mello, Bischof v​on Allahabad.

Am 12. September 1986 w​urde er z​um Erzbischof v​on Bangalore ernannt. Am 24. März 1998 t​rat er v​on seinem Amt zurück.
