Das Bistum Isernia wurde im 5. Jahrhundert gegründet und am 19. Juni 1852 mit dem Bistum Venafro zum Bistum Isernia-Venafro vereinigt. Es gehört der Kirchenprovinz Boiano-Campobasso an.
