Sean M. Carroll
Sean Michael Carroll (* 5. Oktober 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) ist ein US-amerikanischer theoretischer Physiker, der zu Kosmologie, Gravitation und den Grundlagen der Quantenmechanik arbeitet. Er ist darüber hinaus als Wissenschaftskommunikator, Autor populärwissenschaftlicher Sachbücher und Podcaster tätig.
Leben
Carroll erlangte den akademischen Grad Ph.D. im Jahr 1993 an der Harvard University. Er ist derzeit Research Professor am California Institute of Technology in Pasadena und arbeitet auf den Gebieten Kosmologie, Feldtheorie, Gravitation und Quantenmechanik. Sein Interesse gilt fundamentalen Fragen der Physik und Kosmologie, speziell der dunklen Materie und dunklen Energie sowie den Raum-Zeit-Symmetrien und dem Ursprung des Universums.
Er hat bisher vier populärwissenschaftliche Sachbücher und ein Lehrbuch veröffentlicht. Für sein Buch The Particle at the End of the Universe erhielt er 2013 den Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books.[1]
Im Jahr 2010 wurde er Fellow der American Physical Society.
