Das British Matchplay 1978 war ein von der British Darts Organisation (BDO) veranstaltetes Dartsturnier, das vom 30. September bis zum 3. Oktober 1978 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk (England), zum dritten Mal ausgetragen und vom Fernsehsender ITV übertragen wurde. Im Finale konnte der Engländer John Lowe seinen Landsmann Tony Brown mit 2:1 besiegen.
