Die Schachafrikameisterschaft 1998 fand vom 2. bis zum 12. Dezember 1998 in der ägyptischen Hauptstadt Kairo statt und war die erste Austragung des Wettbewerbs. Unter zehn Teilnehmern setzte sich der Ägypter Ibrahim Hasan Labib vor dem Marokkaner Mohamed Tissir durch.
