Profos (auch Profoss, früher auch Profoß, Provost, Profot) bezeichnet einen

- den Bürgermeister in Schottland
Der Begriff kam vom niederländischen provoost (aus lateinisch propositus bzw. praepositus ‚Vorgesetzter‘) über das französische prévôté um 1500 ins Deutsche.
