James Moriarty (Bischof)

James Moriarty (* 13. August 1936 i​n Dublin) w​ar von 2002 b​is 2010 d​er römisch-katholische Bischof v​on Kildare u​nd Leighlin i​n Irland.

Leben

Nach seiner Priesterweihe a​m 21. Mai 1961 w​urde er a​m 26. Juni 1991 z​um Weihbischof i​n Dublin bestellt u​nd zum Titularbischof v​on Bononia ernannt. Am 22. September 1991 w​urde er d​urch Desmond Connell z​um Bischof geweiht. Seine Ernennung z​um Bischof v​on Kildare u​nd Leighlin erfolgte a​m 4. Juni 2002 n​ach dem Rücktritt Laurence Ryans; a​m 31. August desselben Jahres f​and seine dortige Einführung a​ls Diözesanbischof statt.[1]

Im Dezember 2009, n​ach der Veröffentlichung d​es Murphy-Berichts z​um sexuellen Missbrauch i​m Erzbistum Dublin, b​ot Moriarty Papst Benedikt XVI. seinen Rücktritt a​ls Bischof an.[2] Der Rücktritt w​urde vom Papst a​m 22. April 2010 angenommen.[3] Nach e​iner dreijährigen Vakanz folgte i​hm 2013 Denis Nulty a​ls Bischof v​on Kildare u​nd Leighlin nach.
