Panaquire wurde im Jahr 1733 von Kanariern gegründet. Die Vorfahren der meisten Einwohner waren aber vorwiegend schwarze Afrikaner.[1][2]
Die Wirtschaft Panaquire ist immer noch mit dem Kakaoanbau verbunden.
