Es i​st der Nachfolger d​es Standard-Industrial-Classification-Systems (SIC), d​as allerdings weiterhin v​on bestimmten Regierungsbehörden w​ie der U.S. Securities a​nd Exchange Commission (SEC) benutzt wird.
