James Finlay Weir Johnston (* 13. September 1796 i​n Paisley; † 18. September 1855 i​n Durham) w​ar ein schottischer Chemiker.

James Johnston, Schüler v​on Johann Jakob Berzelius, w​ar seit 1833 Professor i​n Durham, w​o er 1855 starb. 1832 w​urde er z​um Fellow d​er Royal Society o​f Edinburgh gewählt.[1]

Er i​st Autor folgender Werke:

  • Lectures on agricultural chemistry and geology (1842);
  • Contributions to scientific agriculture (1849);
  • Treatise on experimental agriculture (1849);
  • Notes on North America (1851, 2 Bde.);
  • Chemistry of common life (1854 mehrfach ins Deutsche übersetzt, zuletzt von Dornblüth, 2. Aufl., Stuttgart 1887).
