Di Grine Kuzine wurde 1993 in Berlin gegründet. Benannt hat sie sich nach einem Klezmer-Klassiker aus dem Jahr 1921, Di grine kuzine von Abe Schwartz, einem berühmten Lied über ein russisch-jüdisches Einwanderermädchen in Amerika.
