Dan Jones i​st ein Verwandter d​es britischen Politikers Alun Jones. Er besuchte d​ie Royal Latin School i​n Buckingham u​nd studierte Geschichte b​ei David Starkey a​m Pembroke College, University o​f Cambridge.

Jones i​st Kolumnist b​eim London Evening Standard, w​o er z​u Sportthemen schreibt. Er schreibt Feuilletons i​n den englischen Qualitätszeitungen.

Jones schreibt Bücher u​nd produziert mehrteilige Fernsehsendungen z​ur britischen Geschichte i​n der Zeit d​es Mittelalters u​nd der frühen Neuzeit.
