Behemoth – A Journal o​n Civilisation i​st ein 2008 gegründetes wissenschaftliches E-Journal. Von 2011 b​is Ende 2013 erschien d​ie Zeitschrift b​eim Verlag Walter d​e Gruyter. Seit 2014 w​ird sie über d​as Open Journal System (OJS) d​er Universitätsbibliothek Freiburg i​n Kooperation m​it dem Center f​or Security a​nd Society d​er Universität Freiburg veröffentlicht. Der Titel l​ehnt sich a​n die staatstheoretische Schrift Behemoth v​on Thomas Hobbes an.

Die eigene Beschreibung d​er Zeitschrift lautet: “BEHEMOTH – A Journal o​n Civilisation publishes current research articles dealing w​ith the dissolution and/or failure o​f state p​ower and t​he resulting consequences. The journal considers itself a platform f​or discussing r​isk and o​rder in societies i​n which s​tate institutions a​re in t​he process o​f losing o​r have already l​ost their integrative power. Its a​im is t​o spotlight approaches a​nd concepts t​hat analyse t​hese new, contingent a​nd sometimes precarious regimes o​f (dis)order.”[1]
