Urban Tigner Holmes, Jr.
Urban Tigner Holmes, Jr. (* 13. Juli 1900 in Washington, D.C.; † 12. Mai 1972) war ein US-amerikanischer Romanist und Mediävist.
Leben und Werk
Holmes studierte an der University of Pennsylvania, an der Harvard University, sowie bei Joseph Bédier und Mario Roques in Paris. Er lehrte an der University of Western Ontario, der University of Missouri und ab 1925 an der University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, wo er 1945 zum Kenan Professor of Romance Philology berufen wurde.
1973 begründete er die Reihe „North Carolina studies in the romance languages and literatures“.
Holmes war Ritter der Ehrenlegion (1950).
