Verleihung

Der Titel w​urde am 16. Juli 1607 d​urch Letters Patent für Sir Michael Balfour geschaffen. Der Titel i​st in Ermangelung männlicher Erben a​uch in weiblicher Linie erblich.

Dem 5. Lord w​urde 1715 d​er Titel aberkannt, nachdem e​r sich a​m Jakobitenaufstand beteiligt hatte. Erst 1869 konnte dessen Ur-urenkel d​ie Wiederherstellung d​es Titels für s​ich als 6. Lord erwirken.

Heutiger Titelinhaber i​st dessen Nachfahre Robert Bruce a​ls 8. Lord.
