Die Sprache ist mit dem Dugun [ndu] verwandt und hat insgesamt 5.000[2] Sprecher.[3]
Gemeinsam mit den Sprachen Dii [dur] und Dugun bildet das Duupa die Gruppe Dii innerhalb der Duru-Sprachen.
