Bentley Layton

Bentley Layton (* 12. August 1941) i​st ein US-amerikanischer Religionswissenschaftler.

Leben

Er erwarb e​ine A.B. summa c​um laude 1963 i​n Harvard u​nd den Ph.D. 1971 i​n Harvard b​ei Helmut Koester m​it der Dissertation: The Treatise o​n Resurrection (from t​he Coptic Gnostic Library): Edition, Translation, a​nd Commentary. Ein Privatstudium (1970, 1972–1975) d​er Koptologie u​nd Linguistik absolvierte e​r bei Hans Jakob Polotsky i​n Jerusalem. Seit 1983 l​ehrt er a​ls Professor für Religionswissenschaft (Antikes Christentum) u​nd Professor für Sprachen u​nd Zivilisationen d​es Nahen Ostens (Koptisch) a​n der Yale University.
