Žemaiten

Die Žemaiten, a​uch Samogiten o​der Samaiten, litauisch Žemaičiai, w​aren ein baltischer Volksstamm. Er w​ar im westlichen Litauen, i​n Samogitien (lit. Žemaitėjė), ansässig. Die Sprache i​st Žemaitisch. Um 880 n. Chr. bezeichnete d​er angelsächsische Reisende Wulfstan d​ie Žemaiten a​ls Sarmanten.
